PM Kisan Nidhi scheme
After dilly-dallying over implementing the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme before the elections and coming under fire from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this count during the poll campaign, Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Rajasthan have finally come on board and fixed a month’s deadline to send names of all 13.5 million beneficiary farmers to the Centre.
The Congress was wiped out of both states in the recent LS polls, losing all the 25 seats in Rajasthan and winning just one of the 29 seats in MP. Only 12,888 farmers in MP have been registered on PM Kisan Nidhi portal so far and just 9,304 out of them got the first instalment of Rs 2,000 under the scheme so far.
There are close to 8 million beneficiary farmers in the state now after the Centre has extended the scheme to all farmers irrespective of the size of their land holding. Nearly 13.75 lakh farmers in Rajasthan did get the first instalment, out of the total 55 lakh beneficiaries but none got the second instalment so far. Over 27.8 million farmers country-wide, however, have got the second instalment of Rs 2,000 too.
The Kamal Nath government has now tasked its officials to send the entire list of 8 million beneficiary farmers to the Centre by July 20. “We were always in favour of anything in the favour of the farmer. But earlier, the Centre gave us no time to send the lists as our government had just come to power and then the model code of conduct came into place. Also, earlier BJP government in the state had left no proper records of farmers. When we can waive Rs 2 lakh worth loans of each farmer, why would we put a hurdle in them getting Rs 2000In Rajasthan, the Ashok Gehlot government on Monday reviewed the progress of the scheme and has issued directions, which ET has seen, that all farmers in the state are told to apply on the scheme’s portal by June 30 and help-desks be set up in all districts to help the farmers.
